A lot of important work ahead for the UK and Belarus (21/10/2009)

HE Rosemary Thomas delivers her credentials to the President

On 19 November, our Ambassador Rosemary Thomas along with several other newly arrived ambassadors to Belarus  delivered her credentials to the President. Addressing the group, which included five EU diplomats, the President spoke about the new period in Belarus – EU relations and the new possibilities that are available within the framework of the Eastern Partnership.

Speaking to our Ambassador, the President recognized that UK is not only an important economic partner, but potentially a very significant political partner of Belarus. Ambassador Thomas remarked that Belarus and UK have a lot of important work ahead to further develop their relations. She also supported the President’s statement that Belarus should not be forced to choose between the EU and Russia.

Dónal Denham, Ambassador of Ireland in Lithuania and Belarus, remarked on the unique role of Belarus as a link between people of different countries.

President Lukashenko also thanked the Ambassadors of the UK, Spain and  Ireland for all the help that their countries provide to  Belarusians suffering from the consequences of Chernobyl disaster.
