Eastern Partnership

The European Union's Eastern Partnership programme was formally inaugurated in Prague on 7 May 2009. Its goal is to support further political association and economic integration between the European Union and its eastern partners: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.

Britain supports Belarus's participation as a full and equal member of the Eastern Partnership.

The Prague summit agreed a Joint Declaration stating that "the Eastern partnership is based on commitment to the principles of international law and to fundamental values, including democracy, the rule of law and the respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, as well as to, market economy, sustainable development and good governance."
